Going AFK

For several reasons, I’m going to be away from the keyboard for a while. Ok, not exactly away from the keyboard, but away from the ‘net.

My kid’s doc was in an accident a while back, and didn’t survive. She’s been upset about that, and her disorder is spiking again. It’s been difficult, to put it mildly. I’ve fallen behind in my own work, not to mention client materials. My site host is moving servers again, and once that’s settled I hope I can clear up the bloody email problems.

Basically – for the next three days I’m going to spend time with the kids, and when they’re at school or sleeping, work my tailbone to dust. I hope this will help Rhia with some of what’s bothering her, but I have a feeling she’s dealing with something I can’t help with.

I’ll be back, hopefully more cheery than I’m heading off…

A Writer’s Spouse Nails It!

Brian Keene’s wife Cassi has a blog. I know, that in and of itself is not shocking (well, it is if they only have the one computer in the house, but I rather doubt that). I think I must have missed it when poking around Mari’s suggested blogs for links to other blogs that might explain the constant inner voice chatter in my head.

Bedlam Banshee:

So now you have it. Do not date or marry a writer expecting deep and meaningful conversation. Do not expect him or her to discuss their thoughts and feelings verbally and do not think that just because they can write, they can communicate. Go into this relationship with either a re-formatted dog collar, a physic or a good pair of reading glasses. All three would be great.

Maybe you’ve seen your writer’s eyes glaze over when you are in the middle of a sentence. This look is often followed by the phrase “wouldn’t it be cool if…” or “that just gave me a great idea!”. (Side note: you might as well forget whatever you were talking about – the conversation is over at this point.)

Well, it doesn’t fully explain the voices (and ya’ll realize they’re not real voices right? It’s me writing before I get to a keyboard…) but it does explain it for friends and family. They’ll all be getting Cassi’s link in their holiday cards this year.
