Take your base!

I am chilled through to the bone, I swear to gods. I should know better than to go to a game without proper winterwear…

All day, it was warmish. Not hot, not cool – warmish. When we left for town (the other town, not here) it was nice. Spotty white puffy clouds, hardly any wind to speak of. And then, after we get some shopping done and get out of the truck to have a picnic dinner before the game, the damn clouds roll in on HUGE gusts of wind from the north that feel like Jack Frost’s balls in January…

None of us brought a jacket, and the girls were in their jerseys and shorts. Sure, they have long socks and Care’s wearing her slider shorts and slider so one leg is protected from the frostbite, but still.

Rhi’s lips turned blue and that was WITH the blanket from the truck. About half-way through, I had to take her to a facility, so I chose Timmy Ho’s so I could get coffee. Extra large, doubledouble. Mmmm…I love Timmy’s coffee!!!!! And yes, I bought hot chocolate for the girls.

The opposing team used three pitchers throughout the game, and not one had any control over the ball whatsofuckingever. Out of 15 girls on our team, 11 were hit at some point in the game. And actually, the players count 14, because the coaches pulled Rhi from the game since they knew she’d not have a candles’ chance in the wind of getting out of the way before getting injured. 11 girls with large, round bruises on ribs, thighs, ankles and forearms. Thank gods for batting helmets.

The score was 21-15. For us, of course (knock-on-wood). Granted, our girls are damn good at stealing bases, so once they’re on, they’re basically home. ;)

Thursday, I’m taking my heavy sweater and another blanket, just in case. For the upcoming tournament, I think I’m going to have to find the girls some black stretchy pants and make them wear their warm-ups under the jerseys. And I’m taking our own food this time… (we did last time too, but…we ate burgers after to warm up…BIG intestinal mistake!)

We’re 3 for 1 now. Four more home games in May, and the tourney at the end of the month. Then June…then hopefully, Provincials. I thought the team was going to be rocky this year, but ya know what? I didn’t give enough credit to the coaches, obviously. They’re playing tight, and the team spirit is high. I think they’ll do it. :)
