And again…
Posted by Morrighan on May 14, 2008 at 9:18 am | Last modified: October 17, 2013 4:22 pmThe girls played again last night, and this time the score was a bit more outrageous. 34-5 for us.
Little E. was back (we thought she’d quit, but there she was…) and there is no jumping back from the pitch this year. I can’t remember if I’d mentioned how she is the youngest and smallest on the team last year? Anyway, she’d been hit pretty bad the first year she played, and last year she got nailed HARD the first game out, then again at our first away game. I mean, for tiny, this girl had a target or something. It got to the point where she was jumping back, away from the plate, every pitch. Not last night. She nailed that ball each time she was at bat, and that last time she nailed it hard enough to send it flying out into center field… way the hell and gone past the fielder. E. is speedy, too – she rounded those bases faster than a rabbit running from a car.
Sid was hitting ‘em all over, too. It’s so very cool to see the girls that weren’t such great batters before step up and get that confidence… get that oomph that gets the balls out there.
Rhia struck out a couple times, but did get a walk that ended in a run. She rarely ever gets to run her own bases, considering her gait sucks and she’s prone to tripping over air (still though, this is the kid they told me would never walk, let alone run) so even for safety she’s often got a runner. The look on her face when she stepped on the plate as the ball went across in front of her was priceless. Care didn’t do too bad in the batting area either, and I think she made it in to home a couple times. I know she brought a few runs in, and managed to get to first before three outs or seven runs. She always gets stuck on first…LOL
Care played in four different positions last night, and I think she’d like to take one on permanently. Backcatcher. It’s weird, because she’s always only ever expressed an interest in second, outside of right field. But, if her hips can hold out, I think she could do good (with a lot of practice) in the ‘catchers place. And right now, C.A. is the only other catcher the team has, since N. decided to stick to first.
Hmmm. Yeah, could work. She’ll have to practice her ass off though.
One more game this week, then a nice relaxing long weekend, with a possible practice on Sunday.
I’m still a bit flanked by the score though – 34-5. They just had no chance against our girls!

What Fastpitch softball’s doin’ to me?
My body aches, I need a rest;
But that’s what it takes, to be the best!
Yeah, so I’m going into ‘baseball mom’ mode. ;)
GDI! It was freaking cold out there tonight. It never occured to me to check the damn weather before we left for the game. The girls at least, were slightly better prepared than I. Care wore her warm-up under the jersey and Rhia wore her volleyball sweatshirt, since they’d given her the same number for that team. Most of the parents were bundled in heavy jackets and blankets. Even so, most of us had chattering teeth by the end of the game.
The opposing team fetched in a buncha runs before we were even up to bat. Shoulda known the first inning would show how the rest of the game would go. Cort was first to bat – and she slammed that sucker almost all the way to the track-ring (we have a horse-track near the diamonds), and ran her skinny butt all the way around the bases. Hehehe – Miami Girls – first bat, homerun!
Care was walked her first at-bat, Rhia had a hit but it went between the pitcher and first base, and by the time she got there, the first baser had her out. She was smiling (sans teeth, by the way, I made her take ‘em out just in case) as she got to the bench though, so all’s good. The rest of the girls did their things – some excellent catching tonight, not to mention batting! Care got a good hit in and made her bases; Rhia got another one in, but only made it to third – but she had brought in two others and RBI are just as good as a homerun. Care may not bat so well as she did in 2006, but she caught a couple flyers out to right field that got the batters out – plus a ground catch and throw to first in a snap that got the batter out before she hit the base… my l’il goth was out there in right dancin’ she was so excited.
K. jumped up and caught a couple flys, S. nearly got decapitated by one, but she got it and shook her booty at the other team (she’s a hoot that girl), C. did some fine backcatching and the new pitcher was just right on. I was so happy for Sid though – all these years she’s hit one-basers although mostly she gets walked. Tonight she hit herself a homerun and everybody was yellin’ and I’ve never seen her run that fast. Now that she’s done it, that confidence will be there to do it again. And again. ;)
Despite the cold and having less practice than the girls from the other team – Miami Girls won it. 24-11.
Miami kicks ass, takes names and NO prisoners…

Full Circle is a bit of an enigma. One would think that it would be a sort of primer on Native American Spirituality. In fact, while there are allusions and some pointed specifications – it is not. The book seems to be a collection of random, thought-provoking poetry and some non-topical materials that were perhaps at one time, articles. Here and there are some really interesting, beautiful sketches.
In its entirety, the book seems scattered, unfocused and a bit off the wall. Had it been centered on poetry, or articles, or artwork – that would have helped matters greatly, but the three formats bundled together into one binding creates chaos where I don’t believe any was intended. Having read some of the author’s more recent work, this book leaves a great deal to be desired. It’s nice, but cluttered. Too cluttered.
Quote pg. 67 para. 1-3
“Peace: ‘Free of conflict or disturbance.’
There is no peace in the natural world. The ocean we named Pacific is anything but tranquil. What appears as peaceful is the occasionally calm surface, concealing mighty currents underneath. Even this is a moving line between two elements, a porous membrane where different powers touch. Nature’s diverse expressions are the result of determined individuation. Life’s many shapes are formed by the tension between opposable forces.
Life exists by feeding on life, the aggressive act of predation. Scientists have proven what primitive people already knew, that even plants experience pain when killed. Vegetarianism seems peaceful because we fail to hear their screams.”
Not for everyone, but worth a look if you come across it in the library. Just don’t expect much, and do try to find his newer works.
